U.S. Army enlists Android Handheld
Mobile Burn: Google to produce what's called the Joint Battle Command-Platform mobile device.
"As part of an effort to bring more advanced mobile services to soldiers engaged in tactical operations, the JBC-P Handheld will end up running a significantly modified version of Android, called Mobile/Handheld Computing Environment. As a supplement to the platform, the Army is adding mission command applications, including mapping, blue force tracking, tactical ground reporting, and critical messaging. The Army also mentioned plans to include third-party developers in this initiative, with the release of a forthcoming software development kit for the JBC-P Handheld."
