Responses to the Nokia Maps 3.0 Beta have prompted some improvements to the free application that lets you plan a trip on your PC with Ovi Maps and then sync those plans with your mobile when you're ready to take off.

Improvements in the new version include a better ability to locate you when the application starts up, map rotation using number keys, synchronization of your history and favorites from Ovi Maps. Syncing of walking and driving directions has also improved.

The Nokia smartphones that are currently compatible with Maps 3.0 Beta are those based on S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1 (E71, E66, 6110 Navigator, N95, N95 8GB, N82) and Symbian S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 (N96, N85, N79, 6650, 6210 Navigator, 6220 Classic, N78).

Ovi MapsBeta works on IE6 (Windows XP), IE7, Firefox 2 and Firefox 3 (Windows XP or Vista).
