White iPhone 4 Release Date Coming Soon?

Will it be a white Christmas for iPhone 4 lovers? That may be the case, as blogs today report that the delayed white iPhone 4 may be available before the holiday selling season.

Joanne Carter, editor at theappwhisperer.com, posted a picture of a label that bears a price for a white iPhone 4, with the following statement: "There has been an inventory leak via Rogers Wireless the Canadian iPhone carriers, displaying a screenshot with the white iPhone 4 as being listed with a Walmart sticker label. Priced at $197 for the 16GB model with a 2 year data plan, that’s the same price as the black version via AT&T that Walmart are currently selling."

When the iPhone 4 launched, Apple CEO Steve Jobs said the white model would be out in July, but then the release was delayed. Cupertino followed up by issuing a statement saying "white models of Apple's new iPhone 4 have continued to be more challenging to manufacture than we originally expected, and as a result they will not be available until later this year."

There was some speculation that the white iPhone shipping process was held up due to a design flaw, known as antennagate, in which the iPhone 4 signal strength dipped when the device was held in a certain way that blocked the wrap-around antenna. After some bad press over the issue, Apple held a press conference and announced it would provide free rubber cases for the iPhone 4 to resolve the issue.

This prompted some industry watchers to speculate that Apple was fixing the design flaw in the white iPhone 4, which is why the white iPhone 4 delay was extended.
